We are delighted to be able to update you to say that following last night’s 6.5-1.5 at home to Caldwell in extremely tough conditions, the Newton Shield team have secured top spot in their group and a home semi-final tie.
The result means the team have won 7 and drawn 2 of their 10 matches, winning all five of their home games for the second year in a row. This excellent record saw them not only finish top in a tough group which included Erskine and Kilmacolm, two teams who have been regulars in the semi-finals and finals in recent years, but also finish with the most points across both groups.
A huge congratulations to the team for their fantastic efforts so far. A thank you also to the team sponsor, Sustainable Packaging Scotland for their support and backing over the last couple of years.
Attention now turns to a home semi-final tie against Renfrew on Monday. This is the first time the club have reached the semi-finals since 2018. Winning the group and securing home advantage for the semi-final now presents a fantastic opportunity and it would be great to see as many members as possible getting out on the course to support.
The first match will tee off at around 5.15/5.30, and everyone is welcome and encouraged to get along and hopefully support the team through to the final.
